Danville wraps up area championship

Danville wrapped up the Class 3A, Area 15 title with an easy 25-18, 25-10, 25-15 victory over Elkmont last Tuesday.
The Lady Hawks added an 11-25, 25-19, 25-7 win over Westminster Christian.
Lindsay Simmons led Danville with 28 kills and three blocks. Sydni Shelton added 13 kills and three blocks.
Kaitlin Wallace finished with 52 assists, while Haley Rae Garnett and Morgan Doherty had four aces each. Lacey Evans and Simmons finished with 23 and 15 digs respectively.
Danville splits
Danville beat Class 5A Russellville 25-19, 25-19 and Hatton 24-26, 25-21, 15-7 last Thursday.
Lacey Evans led the way with 31 digs. Morgan Doherty finished with 19 digs in the wins.
Lindsay Simmons had 25 kills, while Sydni Shelton chipped in 14 kills.
Shelton and Jada Callahan had three blocks each for the Lady Hawks. Kaitlin Wallace finished with a team-high 52 assists.
Lady Hawks reach quarterfinals
Class 6A Spain Park beat Danville 14-25, 30-28, 15-10 to win the Dig in the Park tournament.
Danville finished second in pool play with wins over Winfield (25-15, 25-6), Sparkman (25-23, 25-15) and Briarwood Christian (19-25, 25-16, 16-14).
The Lady Hawks’ lone loss in pool play came to Class 6A Vestavia Hills 25-16, 23-25, 15-13.
Lindsay Simmons had 64 kills and 13 aces in the win. Ashley Nance added 42 kills, while Kaitlin Wallace chipped in with 105 assists and eight aces.
Sydni Shelton had a team-high eight blocks. Lacey Evans finished with 42 digs, also a team-high for the Lady Hawks.
Danville wins pair
Danville beat Good Hope 25-18, 25-13 and Brewer 25-14, 25-16 to celebrate senior night.
All of Danville’s statistical leaders were the team’s five seniors: Lindsay Simmons, Ashley Nance, Kaitlin Wallace, Lacey Evans and Morgan Doherty.
Simmons had 28 kills and five blocks for the Lady Hawks. Kaitlin Wallace added 40 assists and five aces.
Ashley Nance added 16 kills, while Lacey Evans and Morgan Doherty finished with 13 and eight digs respectively.
Hartselle splits
Hartselle beat Lawrence County 25-13, 25-11 and dropped a 17-25, 25-14, 17-15 decision to Muscle Shoals in a tri-match last Tuesday.
Olivia Golden had 18 kills, three aces and eight digs in the two matches for Hartselle.
Chelsea Bennich had team-highs in digs with 28 and aces with four.
Katie Clark added 10 kills for the Lady Tigers. She also had two blocks and a dig. Katelynn Hill had seven kills, six digs and two blocks.
Savanne Howard and Elizabeth Russell both finished with 23 assists. Howard also added three kills, an ace and four digs, while Russell had seven digs and two aces.
Kelsey Bonner chipped in with 19 digs and a pair of aces. Kaylee Shelton had eight kills. Haley Jared and Taylor Lybarger added four and two kills respectively.
Lybarger also had seven digs.
Hartselle goes 1-1
Hartselle split a pair of matches last Thursday, beating Lawrence County 22-25, 25-23, 15-11 before losing to Winston County 28-26, 25-11.
Chelsea Bennich had team-highs with 28 digs and three aces.
Olivia Golden finished with 15 kills, one assist, once ace, one block and 15 digs for the Lady Tigers.
Katelyn Hill finished with 12 kills, six digs, two aces, two blocks and an assist, while Katie Clark had eight kills.
Savanne Howard and Elizabeth Russell finished with 22 and 14 assists respectively. Kelsey Bonner had 19 digs and Kaylee Shelton had seven kills.
Taylor Lybarger chipped in with four kills and three digs.
