Blue Devils bring home blue trophy

SELMA – The Town of Falkville celebrated the return of the Blue Devils as they brought home the Blue state championship trophy on Saturday.

The Falkville boys won the AHSAA Track and Field Class 1A meet in Selma by a score of 106 points to runner-up Linden with 65 points.

After leading the defending state champion Cedar Bluff at the end of day one by only 7.5 points, Falkville ran away with the title early into day two of the state meet.

The Falkville boys managed five gold medals, Canaan Smith won the javelin event and the 1600 meter relay finished in first. It was made up of Clay Kyle, Alex Tuttle, Cade Wilemon and Aaron Estes.

The 3,200 meter relay grabbed a second-place finish and silver medal, as well as eight points for the boy’s team. Austin Wilhite, Clay Kyle, Alex Tuttle and Cade Wilemon made up the relay. Hunter Woodall set a personal record and managed a silver medal of his own, finishing second in the long jump.

Travis Cole also set a personal record and finished second in the state in the 300 meter hurdles.

Bronze medalists for the Blue Devils were Cade Wilemon on day one in the 1600 meter run, as well as William Littrell in the pole vault.

Other scorers for the Blue Devils included: Clay Kyle and Ryan Sullivan, 4th and fifth in pole vault, respectively; Tyler Woodall finished seventh in triple jump. Haydn Blevins managed 8th in discus. Aaron Estes and Bram Miller finished 6th and 7th in high jump, respectively.

Blake Bradford finished eighth in the 1600 meter run. Estes and Alex Tuttle finished fifth and 8th in the 400 meter dash, respectively. Austin Wilhite finished 7th in the 110 meter hurdles. Daniel Lockhart and Lynn Mullins finished fifth and 6th in the javelin, respectively, while Zack Garrison and Canaan Smith finished 6th and 7th in the shot put.

The 3,200 meter run had all three runners from Falkville to score points, Blake Bradford finished fifth, Brian Bradford finished 7th and Drake Hamilition managed 8th place. Alex Tuttle also had a fifth place finish in the 800 meter run, while teammate Wilemon grabbed 8th place.

Falkville has now won track and field state championship titles in classes 1A, 2A and 3A under head coaches Keith and Karen Wilemon.
