Family Bible needs a home

New Center News

From time to time I ask my readers for help and once again I need your help.
I love old books. They always have so much information. I really like to read family history books. I know I’ve mentioned this before about the book Maxine Newton Gibson wrote on the history of the New Center community.
I came across a book some time back that I would love to see returned to the family.
On the inside of the book I found an envelope containing three pictures and an obituary notice for Mrs. Cora Sanders who passed away Oct. 16, 1970.
The book I have is a large black family Bible. On the inside there is an inscription that reads: This Holy Bible presented to Cora Alice Sanders, mother, as a family heirloom by Sarah Pearl Moore, daughter, 1956, Hartselle, Ala.
I would like to see this book returned to this family.
Some of the names mentioned in the obituary are Mrs. Sanders’ daughters, Mrs. Jim Kelly, Mrs. Joe Cole and Mrs. Harvey Moore; also three sons, Haywood Nix, Tommy Nix and Earl Nix.
If you are a family member or perhaps know one of them please pass this information along.
On Saturday afternoon, descendants of T.B. “Bud” and Effie Reeves Maples gathered at the Hillard Long Community Center in Somerville for the fifth annual Maples Reunion. Everyone there enjoyed good food, fun and fellowship.
Those attending were Janice Newton, Kenneth and Carolyn Johnson, Joann Montgomery, Glendell Terry, Larry Maples, Katherine Monk, Tammy and Randy Whitten, C.L. Moore, John and Regina Stinson and granddaugher, Madygail Graham, Ricky Maples, Ronnie and Ruby Maples and Tristan Tidmore, Jerry and Marty Maples, Randy and Rhonda Graves, Tommy and Doris Blankenship, Shirley McCurry and Bobby Maples, A.J. and Ainsley Maples, Samantha and Austin Knox, Fred and Evelyn Motes, Kaye Widener, Javon Alldredge, Cecil and Jo Bomar, Jason, Trisha, Dylan and Hailey Bomar, Lewis and Eldora Maples, Harold and Brenda Maples, Susan, Austin and Payton DeLoach and Sara, Katelyn and Noah Smith. Everyone had a great time looking at pictures and sharing stories.
Christian love and sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Luther Bracken and Vanessa Brown in the loss of her great aunt, Virginia, and Marshell and Mark Carlson and family in the loss of Marshell’s dad, Ronnie White.
Congratulations to C.L. Moore on the birth of her great-grandson, Westen Kenneth King who was born Thursday, Sept. 23, weighing eight pounds and measuring 19.5 inches long. Westen is the son of Kent and Emily Moore King and the grandson of Scott and Melissa Moore.
Happy birthday wishes to Doyle Roberts and April T. Dean, both on Oct. 7, Lucille Kerwood and Steven Keeling, both on Oct. 8, Tiny Hollis, Sarah Howard and Joann Montgomery, all on Oct. 9. Virginia Callahan, Edith Maples, Mo Williams and Karlie Jenkins, all on Oct. 13.
