Kid friendly snacks
Flower Petal Cereal Fun!
Cereal (Cheerios or Special K)
1 banana
Strawberry or raspberry jelly (or jam)
Cereal bowl
Directions: Put your cereal in a bowl and only fill it up until it is about 2/3 full. Add milk.
Place the banana slices around the bowl on the outer edge. (This will look like a big O) Take a spoonful or two of jelly and place it in the center of the O and this will be the center of the flower.
Ham Hash
1 cup potatoes, peeled/diced
1 cup diced cooked ham
2 T. cooking oil
2 T. all-purpose flour
1 small clove garlic mashed
1-1/2 cups water
salt/cayenne to taste
Directions: Make a paste by heating oil in skillet, add flour, stir over medium heat until golden brown. (Watch this very carefully – it will burn easily.) Remove from heat to prevent burning.
Add onion, stirring, cook until soft.
Put skillet back over heat, add ham, potatoes, and water
When it comes to a hard boil reduce heat and cover.
Cook 15-18 minutes. Add salt/cayenne.
Orange or Raspberry Yogurt Swirl
1 scoop orange or raspberry flavored frozen sherbet
1-2 T vanilla yogurt
Directions: To make this recipe a little more nutritious, buy sherbet made from orange juice or fruit juice. Other flavors of sherbet will work fine, too. Put a scoop of sherbet into a bowl.
Place one or two scoops of vanilla yogurt beside the scoop of sherbet.
Give your children a spoon and let them swirl it together and eat.
Variations: place a bowl of wheat germ, raw oatmeal, or cut up fruit on the table and let your children spoon this on top.
You may also try putting the ingredients together in a blender. Blend together and serve.
Crockpot Cheeseburger Sandwiches
1 1/2 lbs. lean ground beef
1/2 tsp. garlic-pepper blend
1 (8-oz.) pkg. pasteurized process cheese spread
2 T. milk
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1 small onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
8 sandwich buns, split
Directions: In large skillet, brown ground beef and garlic-pepper blend until thoroughly cooked. Drain.
In 3 1/2- to 4-quart slow cooker, combine cooked ground beef and all remaining ingredients except buns; mix well.
Cover and cook on Low for 6-7 hours. To serve, spoon mixture into sandwich buns.
Coconuts Covered Bananas
1 orange
2 bananas
1 cup of shredded cocunut
Directions: Cut bananas into several chunks. Cut an orange,squeeze some of the juice onto a saucer and roll the banana in juice.
Roll the banana into coconut, cover well.
