Hartselle 13s finish second in the state

Hartselle’s run in the Dixie Junior Boys’ state tournament came to an end with a 15-5 loss to the Troy team in the championship game Tuesday.
Hartselle earned a spot in the state by winning the Dixie 13 District 1 championship a week earlier.
Troy will advance to the Dixie Junior Boys’ World Series that opens this weekend in Dothan.
The Troy All-Stars went 4-0 in the tournament with two wins over Hartselle and wins over Opelika and Westside.
Zac Pershin homered for Hartselle in the championship game loss.
The Hartselle team members are Lon Starr, Benny Brown, Dustin Stephenson, Kody Kodra, Curtis Russell, Tyler Cook, Caleb Williams, Mason Towers, Dakota Fowler, Holden Langston, Jake Nelson, Casen Wallace and Zac Pershin.
The team is coached by Denny Pershin, Wayne Brown and Robin Starr.
Hartselle opened the tournament with a 14-0 loss to Troy, but battled back through the loser’s bracket to reach the final.
Hartselle loaded the bases in the seventh inning of the opening game of the tournament but Troy ended the threat following a lengthy rain delay.
