Morgan County picks Teachers of the Year

A fifth grade math and reading teacher and a seventh and eighth grade social studies teacher are Morgan County School System’s Teachers of the Year for 2013-2014.

Danville Middle School’s Shannon Anderson and Cotaco School’s Cindy Greene were awarded the honor for elementary and secondary levels of education, respectively, on Friday.

Surprise announcements were made in each teacher’s classroom by a delegation of central office personnel headed by Superintendent Bill Hopkins. Each honoree received a bouquet of flowers and balloons to commemorate the occasion as well as applause and congratulatory remarks from members of the delegation, principals and students.

Anderson and Greene will be recognized at a state education meeting in Montgomery on May 8 and represent Morgan County in the Alabama Teacher of the Year competition. They will also serve on various district committees and the Morgan County School Calendar Committee for 2013-2014.
