Sept. 5, 1911 – A new baby made its appearance today at the Franklin County home of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Hester. John and Anne have named their beautiful new daughter Beulah. The parents feel that their little girl is indeed a gift from Heaven and that there is great promise in the life that she will ultimately lead. The family is completed with the births of brothers Wade and Austin and sister Mattie, but Beulah is destined to outlive all of them.

Sept. 1, 1917 – Beulah Hester is enrolled by her mother in first grade at Russellville grammar school.

May 15, 1930 – Beulah Hester graduates from Russellville High School. In order to prepare to become a teacher, Beulah, despite the ongoing Depression, will attend the Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn).

May 15, 1935 – Beulah Hester receives her B.S. degree from Auburn.

Sept. 1, 1935 – Beulah Hester is employed as a teacher back in her home county of Franklin to teach as assigned in schools at Belgreen, Phil Campbell and Red Bay.

Sept. 1, 1946 – Among the new faculty members at MCHS for the 1946-47 school year is Miss Beulah Hester of Russellville.

Aug. 7, 1948 – Beulah Hester and Grayce Wasson, social studies teachers at MCHS, have returned home following an AEA conference in Talladega.

Aug. 15, 1956 – Beulah Hester and Lizzie Reed Penn were awarded their Masters degrees at Peabody College in Nashville.

May 27, 1957 – Members of the senior class at MCHS thoroughly enjoyed the trip to Washington. They had been well prepared to appreciate their American government by Beulah Hester, a teacher with remarkable knowledge about how things operate at all levels. Miss Hester was also one of their chaperones on this great adventure to the nation’s Capitol.

Sept. 9, 1958 – The PTA had their annual “Get Acquainted Meeting” at Riddle Auditorium this afternoon. Part of the program involved students acting as teachers in the “What’s My Line?” format. Becky White played the part of Miss Hester.

June 6, 1974 – Miss Beulah Hester was honored for 28 years’ service at MCHS in a program put on by her colleagues, alumni, and friends today.

June 21, 1979 – The old MCHS building is currently being demolished by a wrecking crew’s hammers. The columns will remain in Hartselle as the property of the board of education. Many students remember fondly that it was just behind those columns on the right that they had Miss Hester’s social studies class.

Feb. 9, 1991 – The 90th birthday of Lizzie Reed Penn was celebrated this afternoon with many friends and former students at her home at the Riverside Assisted Living Center in Decatur. The party was hosted by Rachel and Bill Cadenhead, Beulah Hester, Linda and Bob Mixon, and Mary Kate Reeves Stroup.

Sept. 5, 2011 – Miss Beulah Hester celebrated her 100th birthday today at Reed Cottage, located in the St. Martin in the Pines assisted living center in Birmingham. The main guests were the other nine residents of the cottage, but other visitors dropped by to help this wonderful lady appropriately observe her centennial.

Dec. 5, 2012 – One of the former Morgan County High School’s most eminent teachers, Miss Beulah Hester, passed away at the Methodist retirement in home in Birmingham today.

Dec. 8, 2012 – Funeral services were held this morning at the Russellville First United Methodist Church for Beulah Hester. The family requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to either the Russellville or Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church. Miss Hester was faithful in her support for many years, serving as a Sunday school teacher and member of the administrative council.
