Hamilton defeats Danville
What do Danville and Auburn have in common? They each lost to the Aggies this past weekend.
However, the similarities abruptly end there as the Hawks lost despite playing hard and showing some heart while the Tigers showed the world what is possible when your defense does not even bother to show up.
Hamilton has a very explosive offense but Danville never gave up in their 35-22 loss last Friday night in Hamilton.
After falling behind 7-0, the Hawks took the lead when quarterback Justin Morgan ran five yards for a touchdown.
Danville then lined up to kick the extra point, but instead the Hawks sent kicker Brock Garrison out wide as Morgan took the snap and found Jason Haynes in the end zone for the 2-point conversion to make the score 8-7 in favor of Danville.
Hamilton controlled the rest of the half, scoring twice to take a 21-8 lead into the locker room. The Aggie touchdowns came on runs of 1 and 2 yards by Quinton May.
It looked as if the game might get away from the Hawks when Colton Brown returned a Danville fumble 30 yards for a touchdown to give Hamilton a 28-8 lead. Brown’s return came on the first play from scrimmage in the second half.
At this point, the Hawks could have quit but instead they chose to keep fighting.
Danville put two more touchdowns on the board with Morgan accounting for both. He hit Travis Turrentine for a 30-yard TD pass and Morgan ended the scoring with a nine-yard run. Both Hawk touchdowns came in the final period.
Hamilton’s last score came on an 18-yard pass from Mitch Stults to Jessie Box.
Danville is now 3-6 on the year and finished region play with a 2-5 record. The Hawks will close out the 2012 season Friday night at Falkville.
