Good QB play, but inconsistent team

With preseason practice winding down, Hartselle head football coach Mike Smith still sees one thing – inconsistency.
"One day the offense wins, and the next the defense wins," Smith said. "It should be a stalemate. That's the main thing that's bothering me."
Smith and his Tigers are preparing for what could be the toughest schedule played in 5A this season.
"We can't look down at any one game and say it's going to be easy," he said. "Every game is going to be tough. Playing against Austin will be good for us, though."
The Tigers will hit the road to take on the Black Bears on opening night. A team that went 9-2 last season and is reloaded for the 2002 campaign.
But, Smith said he has confidence in new signal caller Kevin Jones.
"He's growing up real fast," Smith said. "His learning curve is real good. Really, both quarterbacks have done a good job."
Sophomore Seth Watson, being the backup quarterback, also has seen his share of snaps this preseason.
Jones distinguished himself as the starter in spring drills, and will run a lot of the option.
"I always include the option in the playbook for every team I have," Smith said. "It's really according to the quarterback and his abilities as to how much we run it."
