Reed: Donations will fund renovation of softball training facility

Hartselle School Superintendent Dr. Mike Reed said donations would be used to pay the renovation of the current high school baseball facility, which will be given to the Hartselle High School softball program once the new school opens next year.

During Monday’s regular school board meeting, board member Randy Sparkman asked administrators if a $75,000 renovation project listed for Hartselle High School included renovations to the baseball/softball complex.

The answer given by a school official was “no.”

However, Reed mentioned later that they would seek donations to renovate this facility on the current campus.

The high school girls softball program will be the sole tenants in the facility after the baseball and football programs move into a nearly $2 million field house, which is currently under construction at the new high school on Bethel Road.

The baseball program will have to two new fields on the new campus, including a 200-foot field with a dirt infield.

School board members were also informed that a second well dug at the new high school facility will produce enough water to irrigate both baseball practice fields.

Jim Maynard of Martin & Cobey Construction told the board that the well would produce 60 gallons of water per minute. That means the school will not have to depend on purchasing water from Hartselle Utilities to keep the fields green.
