Funeral for Melvin Robert Griffin, 75, of Decatur was Friday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Hugh Bohlin officiating.
Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mr. Griffin died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at Parkway Medical Center. He was born May 13, 1933, in Ardmore to J. Cleavern and Eunice Casteel Griffin. He was a member of Cedar Ridge Baptist Church and owner and manager of General Mart Furniture Store for 17 years. Previously, he was employed in advertising and sales with The Decatur Daily for 19 years, where he received numerous awards and national recognition for his work. He was an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Bertha Nelson Griffin.
He is survived by a son, Tran Griffin and wife Melissa of Hartselle; a daughter, Rita Ross and husband Mike of Hartselle; and two grandchildren, Heath Ross of Birmingham and Reighley Griffin of Hartselle.
Pallbearers were family members and friends.
