McClanahan, Chunn shine in all-star games

HUNTSVILLE - Audrey McClanahan finished 1-for-3 at the plate as the North All-Stars split a doubleheader with the South last Wednesday at the Metro Kiwanis Sportsplex.
The North team beat the South 7-6 in the opening game and lost the second game 6-1.
McClanahan, a senior-to-be at Hartselle High School, went 1-for-2 in the opening game.
The North scored six runs in the top of the fifth inning and appeared to have the game wrapped up until the South rallied in the sixth inning.
The South All-Stars scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and had a runner at second before McClanahan got the final out on a pop up to second to end the first game.
The South was led by Alabama Christian’s Lauren Webster, who threw three shutout innings.
Casey Clark of Prattville homered for the South team and drove in another run. She also scored twice. She was named the South team’s most valuable player after the doubleheader.
South 6, North 1
Louise Gibson of Oak Mountain, Morgan Druhan of Spanish Fort and Anna Shartzer of Robertsdale combined to limit the North to just five hits in the second game.
McClanahan finished 0-for-1 at the plate.
Sparkman’s Abby MacKay suffered the loss for the North All-Stars.
Clark added a hit in the second game and finished the series by reaching base in all four of her plate appearances.
Pisgah’s BreAnna Ball finished with three hits in the two games, earning most valuable player honors for the North All-Stars.
Soccer
Chunn scores for North
HUNTSVILLE - Brewer senior-to-be Hannah Chunn was stopped on her first two shots last Tuesday in the Alabama All-Star Sports Week’s soccer game at John Hunt Park.
The Lady Patriot was good on her third shot, a second-half goal that helped propel the North All-Stars to a 6-0 victory over the South team.
The North scored four times in the first half to take a comfortable lead in the all-star series.
Leslie Kirk of Austin had two goals in the first half to lead the North team. Elizabeth Conrad and Betsy Stewart also scored goals in the first period for the North All-Stars.
Stewart, who will be a senior at Indian Springs this fall, was named the North’s most valuable player after picking
up a goal and two assists in the win.
The South All-Stars had just two shots on goal in the loss. Keeper Shannon Laughlin had two saves.
Chunn, who logged 12 minutes of play in the second
half, beat the South goalie with a pass from Erin Wooley. Bob Jones’ Christen Sims capped the scoring for the North.
