Phlebotomy class expanded

By Staff
Due to an overwhelming response from prospective students, the Phlebotomy Technician program offered by the Wallace State-Hanceville Workforce Development Office is being expanded to include a Saturday class beginning June 21.
The 88-hour course is intended for those who have no experience and want to become employed as a Phlebotomy Technician in a clinical laboratory or public health department setting. The course includes 48 hours of classroom training and a 40-hour externship to provide a complete learning experience.
Phlebotomy Technicians, or phlebotomists, primarily focus on the collection and transportation of blood samples from patients. They work in a variety of clinical settings including hospitals, blood banks, outpatient clinics, physician offices, and laboratories.
Interested participants should be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. Saturday classes will be held from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. beginning June 21 and ending August 2. Externships will be coordinated after class completion. The course fee is $1599. Financial assistance is available by contacting the Wallace State Workforce Development Office.
For more information, contact Staci Bryan at 352-8166.
