Officials roll development dice on Vegas trip

Consider it the shopping mall for shopping malls.
Mayor Dwight Tankersley and Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce President Susan Hines are traveling to Las Vegas this week for the International Council on Shopping Center’s Global Retail Real Estate Convention. The event includes representatives from virtually every retail developer in the country. Participants set appointments to meet with developers. Some of the city’s appointment have been set by Aronov Realty, the development firm promoting property on I-65.
Tankersley said the event is an opportunity for the city to sell itself to developers. The city has prepared an array of marketing material, including a video presentation showing all available property. Tankersley said city employees were able to produce professional looking material at a low cost.
A previous trip to the convention led to the agreement with Aronov. The company is working to attract development to the city-owned property at the Highway 36/I-65 intersection.
