Funeral for John Paul Smith, 79, of Decatur was Saturday, Mar. 8, at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Ashley officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Lebanon Cemetery in Falkville.
Mr. Smith died Wednesday, Mar. 5, 2008, at Sunbridge Care &Rehab of Decatur. He was born Jan. 9, 1929, in Lawrence County to Oscar James Smith and Lula Hanes Smith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtis Chappell Smith; two sons, David Phillip Smith and Timmy Smith; four brothers, Clarence, Pammer, Clyde and William Smith; and three sisters, Louise Smith, Elsie Brown and Lucy Steelman.
He is survived by five sons, John Cleveland Smith of Danville, Paul Lamar Smith of Mississippi, Obie Daniel Smith of Arley, Richard, Anthony Smith and Jeffery Smith; a daughter, Beverly Joan Sherrill of Danville; two brothers, Roy T. Smith of Ohio and Edward C. Smith of Danville; a sister, Irene Cutchems of Massey; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ed Morris, Mark Smith, Jimmy Asherbranner, Larry Steele, Chris Dutton and Alan Young.
