Priceville wins area with sweep of East Lawrence

The Priceville Bulldogs, voted the number one team in 4A by the Alabama Sports Writers Association for the first time in school history last week, swept East Lawrence to clinch the top sport in the area.

“I’m happy for the guys. We don’t talk about goals a lot, but one thing we talk about is winning our area games and giving us a chance to host a playoff series,” said Bulldogs head coach Preston Potter. “We last won an area championship in 2019 when these guys were 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, and I think they’ve seen over the last couple of years what it takes to get where they are and where they want to be. It wasn’t easy over the last couple of years, from area runner-up in 2021 to missing playoffs altogether in 2022. But, we’re tougher because of it, and we’ve improved from the experiences.”

It was the final week of the regular season for Brewer and Falkville, who missed out on the playoffs, while Danville advanced to the 3A playoffs after a runner-up finish in their area.
