May 26 Morgan County patrol deputies conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Highway 36 in the Cotaco area for displaying a switched tag – a stop that ultimately led to a drug arrest. 

Upon making contact with the driver, Barbara Gail Wright, 58, of Somerville, deputies said they observed syringes in the floorboard in plain view. A routine check through the National Crime Information Center reportedly revealed Wright had active warrants with the U.S. marshals. 

According to the police report, Wright exited the vehicle and was observed concealing something in her clothing. Deputies had the subject remove the item, which they determined to be 5 grams of heroin. 

Agents with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Drug Enforcement Unit arrived and arrested Wright on the charge of trafficking heroin. 

She was transported to the Morgan County Jail, where the staff reported discovering meth in her possession. The charge of possession of controlled substance–meth was added. 

Wright received an $11,000 bond and has a hold placed by the U.S. marshals.
