Hartselle baseball roundup for March 24

Tigers down Decatur

Hartselle’s Tigers defeated Decatur 12-3 in the first game of an area baseball doubleheader at home March 17.

The Tigers collected 11 hits and scored two runs in the first, two in the third, 6 in the fourth and three in the sixth.

Hayden Bradford led Hartselle at the plate with a home run, double, two singles, four RBIs and scored four runs.

Colin Blackwood had a pair of singles, four RBIs and scored a run. Tate Mathis, Collins Hanners and Brady Netherton each had an RBI single. Austin Parker singled and scored twice.

Jake Nelson pitched 5 1/3 innings and was credited with the win. He allowed three runs on five hits while striking out four and walking five. Ben Kimbrough pitched one and two-thirds innings in relief. He had two strikeouts and walked two.

Hartselle 5, Decatur 2

Hartselle’s Tigers scored two runs in the first inning and went on to defeat Decatur 5-2 in the second half of a doubleheader at home March 17.

H. Bradford led the Tigers in hitting for the second game in a row with a pair of singles, an RBI and scored two runs, Zeth Malcolm and Colin Blackwood each had an RBI single, Will Foote singled and scored a run and Tate Mathis had a single.

Jake Rice was the winning pitcher and Misnames was credited with a save. Rice pitched 2 innings, allowing one run on one hit while walking 1 batter. James pitched five innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 5 and walking 2.

HHS 14, Decatur 6

The No. 6 Tigers trailed 0-4 after 2 innings before they strung together 21 hits and went on to blast Decatur’s Red Raiders 14-6 in a road game March 18.

Tate Mathis stroked a pair of doubles, a single, had 3 RBIs and scored two runs to lead the Tigers at the plate. Hayden Bradford had a pair of doubles, two singles, an RBI and scored a run, Will Foote had a double a pair of singles and scored 2 runs, Zeth Malcolm added a 2-RBI homer, Austin Parker doubled, singled and had 3 RBIs, Brady Netherton had a pair of singles and an RBI and scored a run, Collins Hanners added two singles with an RBI, and Colin Blackwood had an RBI singe and scored a run.

Mason Towers was credited with the win. He allowed six runs on five hits while striking out 5 and walking 1 in six innings. Taylor Easterling pitched an inning in relief and had a strikeout.

HHS 14, Decatur 8

Hartselle’s Tigers erupted for 9 runs in the 3rd inning and went on to defeat Decatur 14-8 in the second half of a doubleheader on the road March 18.

Hitters for Hartselle were Collins Hanners with a pair of singles, two RBIs and two runs scored, Zeth Malcolm had a double and single and two RBIs. Jake Caney had a 2-RBI double and scored 2 runs. Cooper Wright had a pair of singles, 2 RBIs and scored a run.

Brady Netherton pitched five innings and struck out three to earn the win. Austin Parker had three strikeouts.
