Priceville High School seniors Emily Cunningham and Peyton Parker signed letters of intent to play basketball for Faulkner State Community College in Bay Minette on Tuesday.

The event took place in the school library with coaches, teammates and family members in attendance, A reception followed.

“I’m excited but a little bit anxious, said Cunningham, a 5-11 post player. “This is something I’ve wished for since I was a little girl. It’s a great opportunity and I intend to give it my best shot.”

“I missed playing my freshman and junior years with knee injuries and I didn’t know if I would get much notice coming back as a senior,” said Parker, a 5-6 point guard. “However,“ all of the hard work in rehab paid off. I think it’s pretty awesome that I’m going to be able to continue playing at the college level.”

“We’re fortunate to be able to sign both Emily and Peyton,” said Faulkner State head coach Linda Pitts. “Both have fundamentally sound basketball skills and excel in the classroom. They’re the kind of players we strive to recruit. I expect both to make an immediate impact in our program.”

Pitts said her team finished second in the southern division of Alabama junior colleges last season and is looking to replace eight graduating sophomores.

Priceville head coach Terrie Nelson credited both players with playing major roles in the success of her team last season.
