Lybarger signs with West Alabama

Hartselle senior volleyball player Taylor Lybarger has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at the University of West Alabama.

According to a statement released by UWA, Lybarger, Samantha Burgess of Saint Petersburg, Fla., Sydney Lerille of Raceland, La., and Korynn Claiborne of Alabaster, Ala., will all join early signees Vic Collins and Briana Sandifer as the fall’s freshman class.

“This may be the most athletically gifted class UWA volleyball has seen in quite some time. Each of these young ladies is a true competitor,” West Alabama head volleyball coach Jordan Lay said. “They are all coming in here to win and compete right away. We are very excited to have such a great young class joining our already stellar group of returners. We are expecting big things to come for UWA volleyball.”

Lybarger earned honors on the AHSAA North All-Star volleyball team, Alabama Volleyball Coaches Association 5A All-State first team, All-Area team, All-County team and AHSAA 5A All-State Tournament team.

Lybarger led the Hartselle Tigers to an Elite Eight appearance as a freshman, a final four berth as a sophomore and senior and State Championship her junior year. The 5-8 defensive specialist spent time on the Rocket City Volleyball Club, Smith Lake Juniors and North Alabama Spikers Association teams.
