Brewer High School’s marching band received a number one rating and captured the 3A Best in Class trophy at the Southern Hospitality Marching Festival in Hartselle on Saturday.

It also won the Challenge Cup in its class and claimed Best in Class awards for Color Guard, Dance Line and Percussion.

“The weather was ideal, the talent was outstanding and it was one of our best attended festivals,” said Hartselle High band director Randall Key. “Every-thing went smoothly, and that’s a credit to our hard-working parents and students.”

“”We had a well-qualified staff of judges,” he added, “and they were very complimentary of the hospitality shown by the community. We thank all of those who contributed to the festivals success.”

Other Best in Class winners were: Meek, 1A; Pleasant Grove, 2A; Muscle Shoals, 4A; and Sparkman, 5A.

Other challenge cup winners were Meek in 1A, Pleasant Grove in 2A. Muscle Shoals in 4A and Sparkman in 5A.

The Dexter Greenhaw Memorial Color Guard Award was won by Muscle Shoals.

Hartselle’s marching band gave a performance following the conclusion of the competitive program. The junior high band opened the festival with the playing of the National Anthem.

The musical highlight of the day was the performance of the University of North Alabama band. It attracted a standing-room-only crowd of band members, parents and other band music enthusiasts.

The program concluded with the presentation of more than 200 trophies.
