Vergie Dorothy “Dautie” Hopper

Funeral for Vergie Dorothy ‘Dautie” Hopper, 89, of Decatur was Wed., Jan. 2, at 2 p.m. at New Center Baptist Church with Bro. Ben Bates and Bro. Larry Long officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Hopper died Mon., Dec. 31, 2012, at Decatur Morgan Hospital. She was born Nov. 3, 1923, in Blount County to William Robert Davis and Clara Lively Davis. She was a member of New Center Baptist Church and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved gardening, cooking and canning. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. “Turk” Hopper; two sons, William Harold Hopper and Marvin Franklin Hopper; two grandsons, Michael Wayne Blankenship and Shawn Erskine Hopper; four brothers, Warren Eldridge Davis, Verbon Barto Davis, Gurney Fain Davis and Floyd Amos Davis; and two sisters, Nellie Ruth Blair and Onzell “Betty” Childers.

She is survived by three sons, David Wayne Hopper and wife Michelle of Detroit, Ala., James Paul Hopper of Hazel Green and Mark Anthony Hopper of Austin, Tex.; five daughters, Elizabeth Ann Blankenship and husband Edgar, Carolyn Sue Watts and Annette Bost and husband Terry, all of Hartselle, and Martha Gail Reeves and Janice Faye Hagood and husband Franky. both of Decatur; a sister-in-law, Gail Hopper of Falkville; a brother, Thomas H. Davis of Decatur; a sister, Ola Mae Segars

of Decatur; 26 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and four great-great- grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Gary Van Blankenship, Craig Riddle, Marion Riddle, Lucas Blankenship, Ty Carpenter, Nick Lindsey, Eric Stauch and Franky Hagood.

Honorary pallbearers were Steve Carpenter, Terry Bost and Edgar Blankenship.
