Once more, I must apologize for not writing the news.

I have been very sick with a mean bacterial infection. This thing hit all at once and I thought if the pain didn’t kill me, the disease would. I have been through the mill, as they say.

Thanks to my doctor and the gastroenterologist doctor. I am on the other side of well. Things are looking up.

One thing that is helpful is that I’ve not been sick very much and have not taken antibiotics hardly at all, at least for years. So they have worked good and I’m getting well.

Thanks to my kids and grandkids, who helped me through this. I have written before about children and grandchildren thinking about their parents and grandparents. No one knows how important this is unless they have been here.

Speaking of seniors, last week Florette Seniors hosted a picnic in Huskey Park for the seniors from Hartselle, Florette, Eva, Lacey’s Springs, Decatur and all over. Everyone enjoyed hamburgers with all the fixings.

They played bingo and Rook and enjoyed country music and watching square dancers. The big thing around here this month was Frontier Days in Eva. The week-long fun started with a beauty contest on Saturday at Journey Church. There sure are some beautiful people around here. Guess what… my kids and grandkids talked me into being one of the 50 and over contestants. I lost to a beautiful 91-year-old lady, Ms. Ruth L. Baltzer.

Can I say we all wanted her to win? She had beautiful white hair and a beautiful smile. All we could say was “You go girl!” On Tuesday, the annual famous hay ride went on even though rain was predicted. 500 people enjoyed the rainy ride and all the hot dogs and drinks. When they were over near Fairview, the bottom fell out and lots of soggy folks had a great time.

On Thursday, West Side Baptist hosted a community singing, which was a great success. Saturday was the big day with the parade and singing and all the fun with best dressed and a pig calling contest. Gee, I never knew there were that many tractors in Morgan County!

Our little great-granddaughters, Brooklyn, 8, and Lannie Kate, 4, rode their horses. Halfway through, Lannie got scared and her great-uncle finished for her. On Saturday night, Journey Church hosted a Southern gospel group which was a great success. This finished a wonderful week.

We had several birthdays this month. Lany Bartram on the 6th; Kaleigh Casey on the 7th and Melissa Jesse, the 15th. Of course, my son, Rick, in Heaven’s birthday was the 18th. This last week has been a sad week too. I and the seniors at the center lost a wonderful friend and quilter, Mildred Lindsey of Eva. She will be missed very much. I visited her in the hospital on Friday. Also, I visited Mary McElwey and Dorothea Tidwell, who is in Woodland Nursing Home and Rehab.

Mary fell and broke her hip. This is another reason to keep in contact with your senior relatives. Also, on Friday, we lost a brother, uncle and cousin, Charles Arnold Jones. He was a very sweet soul who loved everyone. All that knew him, loved him.

On our prayer list, my family needs prayer for our great-grandson, Chase Jesse. We asked for prayer last year for Chase who had cancer. It is back in a lymphnode in his neck. He will have surgery on Oct. 11. Please keep him in your prayers. Also, a grandson, Jon Crawford, who has a growth on his hip bone.

They do not believe it’s cancerous and he’s still undergoing testing. Please pray for him as well. My granddaughter, Jennifer Douthit is going to have serious surgery at UAB. She needs prayer as it is a very serious operation. Also, we need to pray for the families who are plagued with drugs in their family. I hear of more and more families who are having to live with this problem.
