The football program at Danville High School has begun a new journey under head football coach Scott Curd.

Curd, an 18-year veteran coach with four years of experience as a head coach, took over the job on June 6 and wasted no time getting his team involved in an intensive conditioning program.

“We’ve been together for a week and a half and completed our fifth session on Thursday,” he said. “These kids have a positive attitude and are working hard.  Some of them are coming back in the afternoon after a morning practice to run, throw and catch the ball.”

Curd is following in the footsteps of Joey Burch, who gave up the job after the 2010 season. Curd was head coach at Brilliant last season, a position to accepted five days before fall practice began. He was an assistant coach at Falkville from 1997 to 2002 and also held coaching positions at Addison, Carbon Hill, McKenzie and Daleville.

Curd is a native of Brilliant and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from the University of Montevallo.  He and his wife, Freda, are science teachers. She teaches at Brilliant High School and they reside in Double Springs.

“I see this job as a challenge, but I’m happy to be here and get things going,” Curd stated. “In my experience as a coach, I’ve been on both the winning and losing end. Not every team is going to have a perfect season no matter how hard its players try. But you don’t have to win every game to get a lot out of the game. My belief is if you can get your players to buy into the way you do things and motivate them to work hard every day to get better, everything else will take care of itself.

“I want my players to be good husbands, fathers and bread winners after they finish school,” he added.
Nothing would please me more than for them to come up to me in Wal-Mart several years from now and introduce me as their former coach to their wives ands kids.
