Danville’s Hill earns all-state honor

Danville quarterback Caleb Hill was selected to the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s 2010 all-state football team after leading the Hawks’ offense this season with nearly 2,000 yards of total offense.
Hill earned honorable mention honors as a quarterback in Class 3A.
Hill, a 5-foot-9 junior quarterback threw for 17 touchdowns and 1,767 yards for the Hawks this season.
He completed 153 of 257 attempts with an average of 11.5 yards per completion.
A solid threat on the ground as well, Hill ran for 176 yards on 99 carries with six touchdowns.
Hill’s skills weren’t just limited to the offensive side of the ball, either. At defensive back, Hill recorded 22 solo tackles with one fumble recovery, a forced fumble, two sacks and an interception.
Danville finished the season with a 4-6 record after moving to a new region. The Hawks were 2-1 against teams from Morgan County.
Other local players to be selected to the ASWA’s all-state team were Hartselle’s Will Lang, Malcolm Fossett, Jordan Orr and Austin Borden.
Lang was a first-team all-state choice at quarterback in Class 5A after leading Hartselle to the state semifinals for the first time in eight years.
The Tigers finished with a 12-2 mark as the team’s offense set a school record for points in a season with 438.
The senior quarterback completed 180 of 256 attempts for 2,224 yards with 26 touchdowns.
Lang finished up his Hartselle career with a 22-5 record as a starting quarterback.
Orr, Fossett and Borden earned all-state honorable mention honors.
