A graveside service for Windal A. Brown, 63, of Hartselle was Friday, August 25, at 11 a.m. at Johnson Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. A. Ray Lee officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Brown died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Anniston. He was born Oct.5, 1942, in Morgan County to the late Hubert and Erie Lawrence Brown.
He moved to Michigan with his family when he was 12 years old and later graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1965 and met and married his wife, Virginia, while stationed in Norfolk, Va. They lived in Kalamazoo, Mich. for several years. In the early 1980s, after his divorce, he moved back to Alabama and resided in the Oak Ridge community until be became a resident of Falkville Healthcare Center in 2000.
He is survived by a son, Loren and wife Julie; a daughter, Nicole; and two grandchildren, Grace and Joshua, all of Shawnee, Kan; a sister, Annie DeVries and husband Howard of Kalamazoo; a brother, James Brown of Athens; three nieces and a nephew, all of Michigan; eight aunts, two uncles and several cousins who live in Alabama, Tennessee and Michigan.
