All of the following items relate to the military.
1903-March 27, The members of Company E, Dick Adams Rifles, gave a banquet at the Tavern hotel in New Decatur tonight. Gen. William W. Brandon (a future governor of Alabama) spoke on "The National Guard"; S. A. Lynne, "The Duty of the Soldier"; and Tennis Tidwell, "Why A Man Should Marry for the Army's Sake."
1946-March 28, The Hollywood Drive-in and Restaurant, the inspiration of World War II veteran Edward Summers, is currently attracting patrons from throughout this area.
1917-March 29, It is expected that Congress will vote on the war resolution within the next week to ten days. Congressman Almon of this district has still not committed to voting in favor of sending American troops to French battlefields. Regardless, he will fully support these forces if they are committed to the World War effort.
1944-March 30, Cadet Hugh H. Pattillo of Gulf Coast Military Academy (and later a graduate of West Point), Gulfport, Miss., has made the baseball team playing left field.
1945-March 30, Clarence J. Pettey of the U.S.C.B. at Camp Parks, Calif., has written homefolks that he plans to take a leave to visit his mother, Mrs. Myrtle Wiggins, on Hartselle Route 2 next month.
1981-March 30, E. L. (Boonie) Drinkard, 64, died. He headed Drinkard Motor Company in Hartselle in the 1950s and was a veteran of World War II.
1944-March 31, Lt. and Mrs. Neil Wilcoxson of Ft. Sill, Okla., are expected in Hartselle shortly to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Smith, and also relatives in Florence, Alabama.
1919-April 1, There will be no draft boards in Alabama after Tuesday. Instructions to this effect went out several days ago and all papers have been shipped to Washington.
1959-April 2, Bobby Ray Hicks, last year University of Alabama graduate, will leave Friday for San Antonio, Tex., to report for four months' basic training as an enlistee in the Air Force Guard.
