Danville goes 2-3 in tournament

Danville finished 2-3 this past weekend at the Hamilton Aggie Classic.

The Lady Hawks lost to Lamar County 3-2 and Hamilton 3-1, both on Friday night.

Danville then played in the consolation bracket and lost Saturday morning 2-1 to Carbon Hill. In that game, the Lady Hawks led almost the entire game, but Carbon Hill got two runs in their final at bat to win the game.

After being eliminated in the tournament, Danville beat Collinwood, Tenn., 1-0 and defeated Red Bay 10-1.

Michelle Clem scored the game’s only run against Collinwood. Danville had runners on 1st and 3rd in the top of the second inning. The coaches sent the runner on 1st (Lindsey Vinzant) to steal second. She was thrown out but Clem scored from third on the play.

Against Red Bay, Danville got 4 runs in the first and 3 in the second to cruise against the Tigers.

Kellee Stiles went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Haley Rae Garnett, Shelby Beck and Lindsey Vinzant all had 2 hits apiece.

Beck had 3 RBI’s while Vinzant collected 2 RBI’s and Garnett had an RBI. Morgan Weatherwax went 1-for-2 with 4 runs scored.

Softball: Falkville 2, Danville 0

The Lady Blue Devils scored runs in the third and fifth inning to getthe win over their county rivals.

Danville actually out-hit Falkville 4-2 as Lady Hawk pitcher Savannah Bolton racked up 10 strikeouts in six innings of work.

However, two walks and an error doomed Danville’s effort.

Haley Rae Garnett, Shelby Beck, Jada Callahan and Michelle Clem all had hits while Bolton and Stiles both collected walks.

Baseball: Danville 4, East Lawrence 3

The winning pitcher was Trey Jones who threw a complete game allowing five hits and four strikeouts.

Ghaith Vest had a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh. Noah Hogan had two singles while Justin Morgan had a double.

Baseball: DHS 11, Holly Pond 3

The winning pitcher was Tyler Fields, who went five innings and allowed four hits. Justin Morgan worked two innings of relief and had four strikeouts.

Jones had four singles and an RBI. Ghaith Vest had two doubles and four RBI’s. Landon Tidwell also collected three hits.

Danville’s record was 4-7 as of last week. The Hawks faced area opponent West Morgan on Monday.
