CULLMAN – The Patriots ended their season on a high note with a 29-26 victory at Fairview.
Within just a few moments of the game, Fairview fumbled and Brewer's Ben Estes recovered the loose ball. Tony Dickerson grabbed a first down, and Joseph Burton scored the game's first touchdown on a 15-yard run.
Brewer again kicked to Fairview and the Aggies scored the tying touchdown shortly after. Taking advantage of Patriot penalties, Fairview was able to move the ball slowly toward the end zone. They soon scored on a touchdown run by Jesse Johnson.
Fairview scored again with Johnson within the first few seconds of the second quarter. The kick was good and the score was Brewer 7 and Fairview 14 at 11:48.
Burton got Brewer's first down at the 45-yard line. A wide-receiver screen went to Rodney Childs for 35 yards. With a little more than nine minutes left, Brewer was first-and-goal at the 10-yard line. Burton eventually scored the touchdown with a 1- yard scamper. The kick was good and the score was tied.
Fairview had the ball for a while until Childs intercepted near the 50 and returned it 24 yards. Brewer steadily drove toward the end zone and Travis Campbell scored with a 3-yard run with four minutes left in the half.
Brewer received the opening kickoff of the second half, returning it to its own 36-yard line An interception by Fairview killed the Patriots' drive.
Fairview slowly struggled toward the end zone and finally scored at 5:09, but missed the extra point to make the score 21-20 Brewer.
Brewer got the ball but could not get its first down and kicked to Fairview on the fourth down. The Aggies get two first downs and the third quarter ended.
Fairview was in possession at the 35-yard line at the start of the fourth quarter. Fairview scored again at 10:18 by Jesse Johnson, giving the Aggies a 27-21 lead after Fairview's two-point conversion failed.
Brewer scored the game-winning touchdown with less than two minutes left in the game when Childs caught a 28-yard touchdown pass and then caught the two-point conversion pass.
