A Good Samaritan Fund and a fundraiser have been set up to help two Morgan County jailers who were seriously injured in a highway mishap June 22.
Wayne Miller, warehouse manager for the Committee on Church Cooperation, has established a Good Samaritan Account at Bank Independent in Decatur to help Michael Wilson and Matthew Robinson with medical bills and living expenses during their recovery from wreck-related injuries.
In addition, the Morgan County Sheriff's Department will assist the two officers and their families by sponsoring a musical fundraiser July 23. The event will feature local musicians and singers performing on the Spirit of America stage at Point Mallard from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Robinson, 30, and Wilson, 29, were injured when the SUV in which they were riding skidded underneath a tractor-trailer on Alabama 20. Heavy fog contributed to the mishap.
Robinson remains in a coma at Huntsville Hospital while Wilson is recuperating at home.
"Due to the nature of their injuries, an extended recovery time is anticipated," said Miller. "Donations to the Good Samaritan Fund will assist them in meeting heavy medical bills and living expenses."
