Mega yard sale offers boost for SNAP project

With two 53-foot long storage containers filled with donations of clothing and household items, a mega yard sale on Friday and Saturday, July 15 and 16, promises to give the John Mark Stallings Special Needs Accessible Playground (SNAP) in Hartselle a big monetary boost.

The sale will be conducted in a vacant parking lot adjacent to Sparkman Civic Center. Hours will be 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Money is needed to construct the third and final phase of the playground, the estimated cost of which is $263,515,” said Jack Templeton, yard sale coordinator. “We’re seeking hundreds of customers and dozens of volunteers. It’s our hope that many people who like to shop at yard sales with come buy treasures for themselves and their loved ones and remain with us to help conduct the event.”

“To those who have shown their generosity by donating goods for the sale, we say thank you,” he added. “And while our bins are full, we’re not going to turn away last minute donations of good merchandise. Anyone having items to donate is asked to bring them on Thursday afternoon, July 14, or early Friday morning, July 15.”

From 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday volunteers are needed to set up tables, clean and price items and stock tables. A minimum of 10 people is needed, but more would be appreciated. Volunteers will also be needed on sale days to stock items, assist shoppers and serve as cashiers.

Snacks and soft drinks will also be available from late morning to early afternoon on both sales days. In addition, SNAP’s splash pad will be open for the convenience of shoppers with children.

For more information about volunteer opportunities, handy items to bring and times available on the volunteer schedule, please contact Templeton by email at jacktemp@bellsouth.net or by phone at 256-227-3259.
