Blue Devils score early, often in region win over Sheffield

Falkville scored 26 second-quarter points en route to a 38-6 halftime lead in their 58-34 win over Sheffield in its Class 2A, Region 8 opener last Friday.

“We played pretty well as a team, especially in the first half,” Falkville head coach Seth Ward said. “Coach Wilemon had a great plan on offense with some of the looks they gave us and we executed. Our offensive line probably had their best game so far so we were very happy with that.”

The Blue Devils opened the game with a 50-yard touchdown pass from Logan Powers to Logan Fowler and never looked back.

Malachi Collett scored three consecutive touchdowns in the first half and finished with 85 yards rushing on nine carries.

Kole Fitzgerald added two scores late in the first half, one on a 10-yard pass from Powers and then on an interception return to make the score 38-6 at the half.

After a Powers third-quarter touchdown run, Asher Lentz and Denver Comstock added scoring runs in the fourth quarter to finish the win.

Comstock led the team with 127 yards rushing, including a 51-yard touchdown, on 17 carries.

Landon Powers finished 10-of-13 for 174 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 87 yards and a score. Fitzgerald had seven receptions for 111 yards, a touchdown, and an interception returned for a touchdown.

Falkville (3-0, 1-0) will host Tanner (1-2, 1-0) on Friday night.
