Hartselle wins 2019 Morgan County Volleyball Tournament

Decatur Heritage hosted the 2019 Morgan County Volleyball Tournament Thursday afternoon – a power-packed tournament with six ranked teams playing. Class 6A No. 3 Hartselle was the top seed overall in the nine-team tournament, and the Tigers brought home the win.

 The other ranked teams in the tournament were 5A No. 7 Brewer; 4A No. 3 Danville, No. 6 West Morgan and No. 10 Priceville; and 2A No. 7 Decatur Heritage.

Brewer, Priceville and Falkville made up Pool A. Danville, Decatur and Decatur Heritage made up Pool B. Hartselle, West Morgan and Austin made up Pool C.

Following pool play, Hartselle, Brewer, Danville, Priceville, West Morgan and Decatur advanced to bracket play.

Hartselle and Brewer received byes into the semifinals, while Danville faced West Morgan and Priceville faced Decatur in the quarterfinals.

Danville defeated West Morgan 2-0 – 25-23, 25-12 – and Priceville defeated Decatur 2-0 – 25-19, 25-22 – to advance to the semifinals.

In semi-final game one, Danville defeated Brewer 2-0 with scores of 25-20 and 25-15.

In semi-final game two, Hartselle defeated Priceville 2-0 with scores of 25-18 and 25-19.

Hartselle defeated Danville 2-0 – 25-21, 25-14 – to win the 2019 Morgan County Championship.

The Lady Tigers (47-7) advanced by defeating Austin and West Morgan in pool play. Hartselle received several stand-out performances on the way to the county title: Grace Leighton finished the tournament with 82 assists, while Lillyanna Cartee had 33 kills and 38 digs. Hailey Holshouser added 28 kills, 25 digs, and six aces, while Tori Hughes had 39 digs.

Runner-up Danville (36-20) advanced out of pool play with a 2-0 record with wins over Decatur and Decatur Heritage. The Hawks were led by Savannah Free, who finished with 107 assists and 21 digs, while Madalyn Holladay had 35 kills and 26 digs.

Priceville (27-22) advanced to bracket play by finishing 1-1 in pool play. The Bulldogs defeated Falkville and fell to Brewer. They were led by Hollee Mason’s 49 assists; Madalynn Owen had 40 digs, and Abigail Garrison added 33 kills.
