Brewer’s season ends with regional tournament loss

The Brewer Lady Patriots’ season came to an end Monday in the North Regional Tournament in Florence.

Brewer had to play its third game Monday because of all of the rain that fell Saturday and forced the cancellation of all games.

All three games for Brewer were one-run affairs, including Brewer’s lone win, a walk-off victory over Boaz.

Russellville 2, Brewer 1

In game one, the Russellville Golden Tigers defeated the Lady Patriots 2-1.

Brewer got on the board first with a run in the top of the second. Russellville scored two in the bottom of the third that ultimately were the game-winning runs.

Brewer picked up five hits in the game, including two bunt hits that led to the lone Lady Patriot run.

Amanda Knighten picked up the RBI as Madisen Adams scored. Anneliese Kruger took the loss, as she allowed two runs on five hits while striking out one.

Brewer 11, Boaz 10

Game two was a back-and-forth affair between Brewer and the Boaz Lady Pirates. Following a five-run outburst by the Lady Patriots in the bottom of the fourth, Brewer held a 9-7 lead. That lead was erased in the top of the fifth, as Boaz scored two to tie the game.

The Lady Patriots then took the lead with a run in the top of the seventh.

With their season on the line, the Lady Patriots came to bat in the seventh. Adams led off the inning with a single, which was followed by two straight outs, the second on a sacrifice that got Adams to second.

With two outs, Marlee Jones’ single to center scored Adams to tie the game at 10. Kelsi Lemmond stepped to the plate, battled through six pitches and, on the seventh, hit a triple that scored the game-winning run.

Brewer was led by the trio of Hannah Buchanan, Abbey Watkins and Adams, who combined for nine hits and seven runs scored and five RBIs. Adams went 4-4 on the day, while Buchanan went 3-3.

Kruger got the start for the Lady Patriots and allowed nine runs on 10 hits in five innings. Katie Sterling entered in relief and picked up the victory, as she allowed one run on three hits while striking out one in two innings of work.

Hamilton 4, Brewer 3

In their third game, the Lady Patriots fell to the Hamilton Lady Aggies 4-3. Brewer took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. The Lady Aggies scored two in the bottom of the second to tie the game. Both teams added a run in the fifth to make it 3-3.

Hamilton scored one in the six that was the game-winner.

The Lady Patriots were led at the plate by Ali McDearmond, who had three hits and an RBI, while Dallas Linderman added two hits and an RBI and a run scored.

Kruger took the loss after allowing four runs on nine hits in six innings of work.

Brewer’s season ends with a record of 21-15-1.
