Lady Patriots win two at Decatur Orthopaedic Clinic Classic

The Brewer Lady Patriots spent part of their Christmas break playing in the Decatur Orthopaedic Clinic Tournament at Decatur High School. The Lady Patriots were without senior forward McCarley Northway, who is recovering from surgery for a broken nose.

Day One: Fairview 39, Brewer 35

The Lady Patriots opened the DOC Classic against the Fairview Lady Aggies. The two teams met earlier in the season with Brewer winning the game 43-40.

The two teams were locked in a low-scoring contest at first, as they headed to halftime tied 16-16. The Lady Aggies outscored the Lady Patriots 8-5 in the third to take a 24-21 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Aggies and the Lady Patriots started heating up in the fourth quarter, as both teams almost matched their point totals from the first half. The Lady Aggies outscored Brewer 15-14 to secure the 39- 35 victory.

The Lady Patriots lost another player to injury, as Evaiah Burrows left the game in the second half.

Brewer was led by Jacie Andrews, who scored 10 points. Fairview was led by Payton Golden, who scored 13, and Molly McKelvy, who added 11.

Brewer fell to 10-6 on the season.

Day Two: Brewer 40, James Clemens 35

The Lady Patriots played their second game of the Classic against the Class 7A James Clemens Jets. The Jets fell into the consolation bracket after losing in the opening round to the Spain Park Jaguars 53-47.

The Lady Patriots outplayed the Jets for most of the game, tallying 18-7 in the first quarter and taking a 27-14 lead into halftime.

The Lady Patriots extended their lead to 36-20 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Jets battled back in the fourth quarter, as they outscored the Brewer 15-4, but it was not enough, as the Lady Patriots held on for the 40-35 victory.

The Lady Patriots were led by Leisha Steger, who scored 11 points. James Clemens was led by TK Grandberry, who scored a game-high 17 points.

Brewer improved to 11-6 on the season.

Day Three: Brewer 35, Buckhorn 29

The Lady Patriots closed out the DOC Classic by playing the Lady Bucks from Buckhorn High School. The Lady Bucks advanced to meet the Lady Patriots by beating Decatur 64-33.

Brewer led 12-10 at halftime. The Lady Patriots’ 12 points all came from behind the three-point line, where they hit four for their only made baskets of the first half.

The Lady Patriots would hit three more three-pointers in the second half. Brewer scored 21 points from behind the three-point line for the game.

Brewer won the game behind a balanced scoring attack led by Andrews, who scored eight points. Buckhorn was led by Mackenzie White, who scored a game-high scored 11 points.

Brewer finished the DOC Classic with a 2-1 record to improve to 12-6 on the season.
