Hartselle Parks and Recreation to host viewing of Polar Express

The Hartselle Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting a viewing of Polar Express at the Hartselle Train Depot Dec. 14 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event is $10 per ticket and includes the movie, a meal and a visit with Santa.

Staci Wells is one of the event organizers, and said the event was created to offer a fun family night for the community. “We will be showing Polar Express, doing a meal and some snacks. It is a family event, people are encouraged to wear pajamas and bring blankets. Seating will be on the floor. After the movie Santa will be there and he will be giving them a small gift to remember the event,” Wells said.

Tom Chappell is the director of the Parks and Recreation, and said the location and activities help make the event more fun. “There is limited space, but we feel like it is good to have it at the Depot, it just adds to the event,” Chappell said.

Due to spacing, tickets will be sold to the first 60 people for the event and can be purchased from the Civic Center. “When you have it at the Depot we get more of the feeling with the trains coming through, there’s more ambiance,” Wells said.

This year, the event will also be more of a family event. Each child is required to have an adult in attendance. Chappell said that last year children were able to be dropped off, but felt like having parents at the event can make it more family oriented. “We are just trying to come up with family friendly events. Although it is not a big one, it was successful last year and we are continuing to try to come up with events, and always welcomes peoples’ input and ideas for events for the future,” Chappell said.
