Hershal Clemons honored at Hartselle council meeting

Last week’s city council meeting featured an award giving as Hershal Clemons was honored for 40 years of service for the City of Hartselle. He started working for the city on July 26, 1977 and today he is the Public Works Supervisor. He has worked under 8 mayors and 10 directors in that time.

The first point of business was the appointment of CDBG Grant Administrator. The council approved Community Consultants Incorporated to provide application preparation services and all grant administrative services required to implement all approved CDBG grant projects in accordance with ADECA regulations. The Council also authorized Community Consultants, Incorporated to begin project development activities and in the event a project is determined feasible, it is authorized to begin the application preparation activities upon approval of the City Council.

The council also authorized the Mayor to execute FAA Grant offer for GY17. The City of Hartselle is authorized to execute a Grant Agreement dated July 17, 2017 for an undertaking a project in fiscal year 2017 to make improvements at the Hartselle-Morgan County Regional Airport.

The council approved the appointment of Mark Berry to the personnel board. Berry has spent the last six years on the board.

The council approved a budget transfer for the Fire department of $881.25 to line item #01-202-5204 (Training and Education). These funds are the remainder from a 2013 FEMA assistance to firefighters grant #EMW-2013-FO-06740 (SCBA grant). FEMA is closing the grant and states that the fire department is entitled to these funds.

Another budget transfer was approved that transferred $400.00 from line item #01-202-5300 (building maintenance) to line item #01-202-5107 (uniforms). The funds will outfit the new firefighter (replacement firefighter).

A final budget transfer was approved of $2700.00 from line item #01-202-5508 (supplies) to line item #01-202-5503 (minor equipment). These funds will equip the new firefighter.

The safety award winners for the fourth quarter revealed. The winners were Jennifer Tetreault- City Hall, Steve Vaughn- Fire Dept., Mark Edmundson-Park/Rec, Brent Steele-Police Dept. and Jason McDaniel-Public works.
