Funeral for Lewie H. Gilchrist, 74, of Decatur wasWed., April 1, at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Phillip Hines officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial was in Hartselle Memory Gardens.

Mr. Gilchrist died Mon., March 30, 2015, at South Hampton Cove Nursing Home & Rehab. He was born April 16, 1940, in Morgan County to Otto Gilchrist and Hazel (Cook) Gilchrist. He was employed as a police officer for the City of Decatur before his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John,Vaughn and Garland Gilchrist; and his favorite aunt, Louise Sutter.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Helen Dolores Gilchrist of Decatur; a son, Stacy Stinnett (Stephanie) of Decatur; a daughter, Beverly Wilson (Bob) of Decatur; a brother, Jack Gilchrist of Decatur; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandsons and a son-in-law.
