The Morgan County Sheriff’s Drug Task Force has seized 29 marijuana plants and about two pounds of loose marijuana Oct. 5-9 following an investigation near Somerville on Bluff City Road and Draper Road.

On Sun., Oct. 5, Morgan County Deputies responded to a domestic violence call at 197 Bluff City Road. When deputies arrived, they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from within the residence.

Deputies also observed two small children, ages 2 and 4, at the residence. Drug task force agents arrived on seen and obtained a search warrant for the residence and located approximately two pounds of marijuana as well as drug paraphernalia items used in the sale and distribution of Marijuana within the residence.

Zackery Hughes, 26; Alixandra Hughes, 24; Ginger Goldthwaite, 50; and Evan Goldthwaite were all arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana 1st degree and transported to the Morgan County Jail.

Bond was set by Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Howell in the amount of $30,000 each. The children were released into the custody of family members.

On Tues., Oct. 7, the task force obtained a search warrant for the residence located at 1374 Bluff City Road. Agents executed warrant and located nine marijuana plants behind the residence and seized in total 17 shotguns, rifles and handguns.

Agents made contact with the same two children from the night of Oct. 5 within the residence. Morgan County Department of Human Resources arrived on scene and placed the children into foster care.

Keith Monroe Hughes, 57, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana 1st degree. Bond was set at $30,000.

Zackery Hughes and Alixandra Hughes were arrested again and were charged this time with loitering in a drug house. Bond was set at $1,000.00.

On Thur., Oct. 9, the Morgan County Drug Task Force with the assistance of Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control’s narcotics division patrolled the skies of Morgan County, attempting to located and eradicate marijuana grows throughout the County.

Drug Task Force Agents located a large marijuana grow containing with 20 marijuana plants and growing materials (cages and fertilizer) on Draper Road in wooded area along a creek.

The Morgan County Drug Task Force has a suspect, but no charges have been made at this time.
