Nine arrested in crime roundup

Nine people have been arrested following two searches in Morgan County Wednesday.

Sheriff Ana Franklin said in a press release that the Morgan County Drug Task Force along with Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board Drug Enforcement and the Hartselle Police Department executed two search warrants and executed two arrest warrants throughout the evening of June 11 on various drug and criminal offenses.

The first search warrant was executed at 1404 Gum Springs Road in the Falkville area. Christopher Sandlin, 36, and Cynthia Long, 38, were arrested and charged with the unlawful possession of marijuana 2nd degree and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond set for at $600 each.

James Brown, 50, was arrested and charged with loitering in drug house His bond was set at $300.

Jeane Nicole Melson, 40, was arrested and charged with illegal possession of prohibited liquor. Her bond set at $300.

Donna Nell Jackson, 47, was arrested and charged with the unlawful possession of a controlled substance – Valium. Her bond was set at $2,500.

While executing search warrant, agents said Jackson was attempting to hide in the rear compartment of vehicle driven by Melson. Jackson was found also to be in possession of several controlled substance pills while Melson was in possession of an opened alcoholic beverage within the vehicle.

En route to the second search warrant, agents located Tanner Phillips, 20, standing outside residence located at 1702 Hayes St. SW in Hartselle. He was arrested on outstanding warrants for criminal trespass 3rd degree.

Upon making contact with Phillips, Alex Stewart Smith, 40, was also arrested on outstanding warrants for contempt of court arrest warrants for failure to pay child support.

Another search warrant was executed at 501 Sloss St. in Hartselle.

Gerald Curtis Goodwin Jr., 33, and George Edward Freer, 28, were arrested and charged with unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance – methamphetamine 1st , unlawful possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and for the unlawful possession of felony drug paraphernalia. Their bonds were set at $200,000 each.

After making contact with the two suspects, agents located methamphetamine making materials and equipment, including lithium strips, pseudoephedrine, lye, fuel, muriatic acid and hose for an HCl gas generator. Agents also located a large quantity of liquid and powder methamphetamine.

Both suspects were decontaminated on site by Hartselle Fire Department due to chemical exposure of the methamphetamine manufacturing process and later transported to the Morgan County Jail.
