Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church will hold Wednesday evening worship services throughout the season of Lent.

All are welcome to attend these evening services. They focus on a time of penitence, the Word of God, and repenting of our sins. The services begin at 7 p.m. and are preceded by a light meal at 6 p.m.

The sermon series “CrossWords” reflects on the seven last words of Christ from the cross.

Services will be March 19, March 26 and April 2 and April 9. Tonight’s service, March 12, focus is “You Will Be With Me in Paradise.”

If you want to further extend your prayer time during Lent, you are invited to the weekly prayer time on Mondays at noon, also at Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. These Monday Noon Prayers called 12 @ 12 (12 minutes at 12 p.m.) are not only during Lent, but they are held each week of the year.

Lent is a Christian season described as a time of repentance and good works and sometimes with fasting. It is the 40-day period between Ash Wednesday and Easter. Though it is not specifically mentioned in the Bible, the celebration of Lent is one of the oldest traditions in the Christian church.

You may not realize the connection between Mardi Gras and Lent unless you engage in a little bit of history about the origins of both.  Even Shrove Tuesday is a pre-lenten feasting of sweets, pancakes and foods which many people refrain from eating during lent as a part of their personal fasting. Lent means “spring” in ancient languages and is also the word referring to the month of March.

Come for fellowship, quiet personal prayer, worship, and a time of preparation for Easter.
