Home-to-home solicitation by sales agents is getting out of hand in Priceville, according to Mayor Melvin Duran, and steps are being taken to prevent it.

“I’ve been getting solicitors at my house up to 8 or 9 p.m.,” Duran said, “and I’m getting more complaints about this issue from residents than anything else.”

“What can be done to stop it?” he asked town attorney Williams S. Sanderson at Monday night’s regular council meeting.

“You can’t stop it totally,” said Sanderson, “but you can apply reasonable restrictions.”

“Police officer Herman Davis has collected several town ordinances that address this problem and we’ll be reviewing them with the idea of drafting an ordinance,” Duran stated.

“Well be happy to work with whatever you come up with and draft an ordinance for your consideration,” Sanderson said.

The council acted on other matters as follows:

•Approved invoices totaling $99,981.69.

•Approved $200 for a full page advertisement in the Morgan County Sheriff’s Rodeo program.

•Approved a forensics camera and accessories totaling $2,214.95.

•Approved $450 expenses for Matt Spicer, Clint King and Chip Spicer to attend a chemical spill response seminar Feb. 19-20.
