Wes Letson inducted into BSC Hall of Fame

Hartselle native Wes Letson was honored recently as a member of Birmingham-Southern College’s Sports Hall of Fame.

He and six other nominees were inducted as members of the college’s 33rd HOF class at a Hall of Fame Banquet on campus Jan. 3.

”I didn’t expect it,” Letson said, “but it made me proud to know that my numbers were good enough to get me in.

Letson, a lefty, pitched baseball for the BSC Panthers from 2002 to 2004. In his junior season in 2004, he was named to the All-Big South Conference and Big South All-Tournament teams. His performance helped BSC win the regular season title and earn a berth in the NCAA Regional in Athens, Ga. He posted a 12-2 record that season, including wins over No. 29 Alabama and No. 24 Mississippi State and ended up being drafted in the 11th round by the Atlanta Braves. He played on Braves’ farm clubs for three years before giving up the profession.

Letson was a starter for the Hartselle Tigers baseball team from 2001 to 2004.

He recently joined South Central Steel Co. in Harpersville as a project manager.

He and his wife, Ami, live in Calera. They have two daughters, Madison, 5, and Peighton, 2.
