Fuqua, Orr win ASF gold medals

Jim Fuqua and Allie Orr, both of Hartselle, claimed gold medals in javelin competition at the 2013 Alabama Sports Festival at Samford University in Birmingham last weekend.

Fuqua finished first in the 60-64 male adult division and Orr came in first in the 17 and under youth division.

Fuqua, who coaches Hartselle High School’s javelin throwers, owns a five-year unbeaten record in his age division and holds a No. 1 ranking in the nation for his age.

Orr, a member of the Hartselle High track and field team, won her second gold in the 17 under division. She won her first in a Mississippi competition on June 1.

“Allie, a senior, is one of three HHS javelin throwers Fuqua coaches.

“She has good velocity and if she continues to work hard she has a good chance for a medal in next year’s state high school competition, Fuqua said of Orr.
