DNES announces Special Olympic winners

Congratulations go out this week to the winners in the Danville-Neel Elementary School Special Olympics. They are listed as follows:

• Clara Miller-first place softball throw and wheelchair race.

• Johnathan Agner – first place 100m dash and second place in the softball toss.

• Jordan Thomas – first place 10m-gait race and second place in the softball throw.

• Brooklyn Garrison – second place softball throw and third place 50m dash.

• Gabe Shields – first place softball throw and second place 50m dash.

Carolyn Besnyl, president of the McKendree United Methodist Women’s Unit, enjoyed attending the Northwest District United Methodist Women’s meeting on Sat., April 27. Austinville United Methodist Church Unit hosted the meeting, which began at 9:30 a.m. The spiritual enrichment theme for the event was “Living the Heart of God.” The guest speaker was Linda Williamson of Florence. She is the director of the Wesley Foundation at the University of North Alabama. The host U.M.W. group served lunch in the fellowship hall following the meeting.

Sun., April 28, was United Methodist Women’s Sunday at McKendree United Methodist Church. Carolyn Besnyl presented a program about the history of the U.M.W. Unit and the unit’s mission projects both local and foreign. During the meeting, Mrs. Besnyl presented Tammy Vest with the Service Award and Pin as the honored member of McKendree’s United Methodist Women for this year.

Christian love and heartfelt sympathy go out this week to the family of Alice Hardwick Gregg. She was a former resident of Massey and a member of McKendree United Methodist Church. Mrs. Gregg taught home economics at Danville High School after graduating from Auburn/API. She married H.T. “Bud” Gregg of Hamilton and they raised a family of five. They were very active in farming, church and community organizations.

Christian love and heartfelt sympathy go out this week to the families of Dale Scott Queen and Johnny J. Brown who both passed away last week.

Special congratulations go out this week to the winners of the candle sale at Danville-Neel Elementary School. The top sales winner was Tyler Dodgens. He was awarded a signed Nick Saban football. The second place winner was Jonathan Edmonds. The prizes were awarded at Brewer School on April 25.

I want to express my heartfelt sympathy to the family of George Jones who passed away last week at age 81.

He will live on through his music and will always have a special place in the hearts of all country music fans.
