Danville falls to Cordova

Danville’s baseball season came to an end Saturday, as the Cordova Blue Devils won Game 3 of the series 13-3.

The Hawks ended their season with a 23-16 record.

In the final match-up, Cordova blew the game open in the by scoring six runs in the third inning, en route to the 10-run win in five innings.

Senior Justin Morgan, however, wouldn’t let the series end with a two-game sweep. He pitched all nine innings of game two, went 2-for-4 and had the game-tying RBI in Danville’s 9-7 come-from-behind win.

The Hawks fell behind 7-0 in the first four innings, but Morgan and the Danville defense shut the Blue Devils down the rest of the way. Morgan finished with six strikeouts and four earned runs.

The Hawks got five in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth inning. They took the lead with on a wild pitch and an RBI base hit.

Ghaith Vest also went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Tyler Fields added a double and RBI.

In the first game, Danville fell 10-1, but only four of Cordova’s runs were earned.

Austin Clemons took the loss with one strikeout.

Vest was 2-for-2 while Noah Hogan, Slater Robinson and Landon Tidwell all had a hit apiece. Robinson’s hit was a triple.
