MA upsets HHS

Hartselle’s Lady Tigers won both pool games on Friday night and Saturday morning before falling to Madison Academy, 4-2, in the opening round of tournament play at the Grady and Margie Long Softball Complex in Hartselle.

The loss left the Lady Tigers with an 8-7-1 record. Monday’s scheduled game with Sparkman was cancelled due to inclement weather.

Pisgah won the tournament with a 9-8 decision over Madison Academy in nine innings.

The Lady Tigers fell behind to Madison Academy on the strength of a two-run homer and were unable to put together a comeback rally.

Jada Hayes had an RBI double, Taylor Wascavage knocked in a run with a single and Sarah Ellen Battles and Baylee Holt each singled.

Haley Jared was tagged with the loss. She allowed six hits while striking out seven batters.

In Friday night’s opening round pool game, the Lady Tigers trounced Smith’s Station 6-0.

Battles paced Hartselle at the plate with a pair of singles and two RBIs. Ashley Boggs had two singles and an RBI, Jared had a pair of singles and Kayla Faulk singled.

The winning pitcher was Faulk. She allowed no runs on one hit and walked three batters.

Hartselle came up with five hits to spark a 7-2 win over Hazel Green in their second pool play game on Saturday morning.

Wascavage led the way with a triple, single and two RBIs. Faulk had an RBI double and Leah Stephenson contributed a pair of singles.

Hayes was the winning pitcher. She allowed no runs on one hit while striking out nine and walking one batter.

The Lady Tigers banged out 17 hits in a 14-3 win over Austin’s Lady Black Beats on March 14.

Holt paced the win with four singles, an RBI and three runs scored. Faulk doubled and singled and knocked in three RBIs and scored a run, Jared had an RBI double and scored a run, Emily Lipinski had a 2-RBI single, Leah Stephenson had a pair of singles, Boggs had a pair of singles and scored twice, Haynes had an RBI single, and Battles, Wascavage, Madeline Sittason and Tori Denslow each singled.
