Hartselle breaks open tight game with Athens

Through four innings neither team had scored, but Hartselle’s Lady Tigers changed that in the bottom of the fifth inning when they scored three runs against the Athens Lady Golden Eagles went on to record a 5-0 shutout win in their first home appearance on Thursday.

The win lifted Hartselle to a 4-1-1 record on the season.

Ashley Boggs scored the go-ahead run after she singled, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Sarah Ellen Battles and crossed the plate in front of a triple by Baylee Holt. Taylor Wascavage doubled to drive in Holt for the third run.

Hartselle scored two more run the sixth on the strength of Madeline’s Sittason’s double.

Haley Jared was the winning pitcher. She had six strikeouts, allowed one walk and gave up five hits.
