Celebrating Janie Holmes birthday

Belated birthday greeting are extended to Janie Holmes on Jan. 25. She was honored on her birthday with a dinner at her home Sat., Jan. 26. Guests were Allen and Jan Holmes, Greg and Pam Holmes, Gerry and Linda Holmes, and Debbie Cummings. Also attending were Dwight and Linda Allredge and Kim Parker and children. Todd and Misty Erwin and Riley came by Friday and extended best wishes to the honoree. Kelly Holmes called.

Tomato sauce

1 can tomato soup

1/4 cup milk

1 cup sour cream

Heat all ingredients in a sauce pan. Stir until well mixed.

 

Ham spread

1/2 pound cooked chopped ham

2 sweet gherkins

1 teaspoon dry mustard.

Moisten with a little mayonnaise.

 

Crabmeat spread

2 cups of crab meat

1/2 cup diced celery

1 boiled egg

2 T mayonnaise

Combine all ingredients and stir until well blended. Serve with crackers.

 

Caramel Frosting

1/2 cup margarine

1/4 cup milk

1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed

1 3/4 cup sifted powdered sugar

Combine margarine in a sauce pan with milk and brown sugar. Heat to a boil and cook two minutes, stirring to prevent scorching; cool. Stir in powdered sugar, and beat until smooth. Add 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla, and beat until well blended.

 

Syrup for pancakes

1 c. brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup water

1 tablespoon margarine

Combine sugar and water, bring to a boil for two minutes. Remove from heat and stir in margarine and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Serve hot on pancakes.

 

Pineapple slush

6 ounces pineapple juice

2 cups cold water

2 cups sugar

Ginger ale

Combine water and sugar in a sauce pan, heat. Boil for two minutes. Remove from heat and stir in pineapple juice. Add ginger ale before serving.

 

Fruit punch

2 qts unsweetened apple juice

2 cups cranberry juice

1 six ounce can ginger ale

Mix all ingredients well. Serve over ice.

 

Prune delight

1 T prunes cut into small pieces.

1/2 cup vanilla ice cream

Ginger Ale

Put prunes into a tall glass and add one scoop of ice cream and stir in ginger ale.

 

Garlic dressing

1 cup mayonnaise

1 cup skim milk

1 tablespoon lime juice

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Blend all ingredients and mix well.
