Hawks swept at home by Decatur

The Danville boys’ and girls’ basketball teams were swept by visiting Decatur on Jan. 2. The Lady Hawks fell 51-48, while the Hawks saw the Red Raiders rally in the fourth quarter to win 51-46.

Decatur 51, Danville 48

The Lady Hawks struggled early in falling behind 16-8 after the first quarter in their 51-48 loss to Decatur. However, Danville outscored the Lady Red Raiders 33-23 in the second and third quarters to take a 41-39 lead into the fourth quarter. Decatur outscored the Lady Hawks 17-12 in the final quarter to rally for the win.

Daily Alberti finished with a double-double, 26 points and 14 rebounds, to lead Danville. She also had six steals. Maddie Sherrill added six points and six assists.

Jennifer Michell had 13 points to lead Decatur, while Carlee Mitchell had 10 points and six rebounds. Amiah Jackson added nine points and eight rebounds.

Boys
Decatur 51, Danville 46

The Hawks and the Red Raiders met on the hardwood for the first time in over sixty years on Jan. 2. The two teams battled through four quarters, with Decatur rallying for a 51-46 win. The Red Raiders led 14-11 after the first quarter, but Danville took a 28-21 lead into halftime and then extended the lead to 37-26 heading into the final quarter. Decatur outscored the Hawks 25-9 to come from behind and get the win.

AJ Holladay scored 19 points to lead Danville. Ty Bailey and Huntley Segars each scored 11 points. Bailey added eight rebounds, while Segars had four rebounds and three steals.

Wyatt Smith led Decatur with 10 points.
